Armenia reports casualties during clashes with Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry has no information about the armed clash, allegedly taking place on the border with Armenia. This is what the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, Vagif Dargyahly, told TASS.

“There is no official information on border clashes. If there will be any, the Defense Ministry will issue a statement through the official channels”, he said.

Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan reported on an armed clash in the north-eastern border of Armenia with Azerbaijan.

According to him, the morning of December 29, on a segment of the state border of Armenia to the south of the village of Chinari, Tavush marz, Azerbaijani troops have allegedly attempted a sabotage attack.

Armenian armed forces engaged in battle with the enemy. Sniper and mortar fire are being used. The fight goes on”, states Hovhannisyan.

Moreover, the Armenian side reported casualties in the fighting.

“First lieutenant Shavarsh Melikyan, privates Edgar Narayan and Erik Abovian were killed”, said Hovhannisyan.

Meanwhile, according to the morning brief of the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan, Armenian armed groups 39 times violated the ceasefire in different directions of the frontline within 24 hours. The positions of Azerbaijani Armed Forces in the village of Kohnegyshlag and the nameless heights in the Gazakh district, as well as in the villages of Alibeyli and Agbulag, Tovuz district came under fire from the positions located in the village of Paravakar, Ijevan district, in the villages of Aygepar, Mosesgegh, Berd district of Armenia.

Azerbaijani army positions were also shelled from Armenian positions located near the occupied Goyarkh, Chilaburt villages of Terter district, Javahirli, Shikhlar villages of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmedli villages of Fuzuli district, as well as on nameless heights of Goranboy, Terter, Khojavand, Fuzuli districts.
