Senior Dubai newspaper editor’s wife found dead

The wife of a senior newspaper editor was found dead at her home in Dubai.

Gulf News said Jane Matthew, the wife of Francis Matthew, a long-serving senior editor with the title, was discovered on July 3 at their house in Jumeirah.

Mr Matthew, a British national, is speaking to officers in connection with the investigation, prosecutors said.

Abdul Hamid Ahmad, Editor-in-Chief of Gulf News, said in a statement on the newspaper’s website: “It is with great sadness that we announce that Jane was found dead on Tuesday night. We share the family’s grief and pray to the Almighty to give them the strength and patience to overcome this very difficult situation.

“Both Francis and Jane have been part of society for nearly 30 years and were very active members of the British expatriate community. We request that the family be given the privacy they need to cope with the loss.”

Mr Matthew, a widely-known commentator on Gulf affairs, was editor of the paper from 1995-2005.
