US Congressmen congratulated Azerbaijan on Independence Day

US Congresswoman from California Loretta Sanchez has signed a special congratulatory statement on the occasion of Independence Day of Azerbaijan – October 18, reports the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Los Angeles.

The document notes that Azerbaijan, having declared its independence on May 28, 1918, went down in history as the first secular parliamentary democracy in the Muslim world, for the first time granting voting rights to women.

The statement indicates that, over the last 25 years from the restoration of independence, the Republic of Azerbaijan has consolidated its freedom, sovereignty and independence, and has become a staunch and strategic ally and the largest trade partner of the United States of America in the critically important South Caucasus region. It was also stressed that Azerbaijan is internationally regarded as a successful model for peaceful and harmonious coexistence of Muslims, Christians and Jews.  In conclusion, the congresswoman mentioned the remarkable achievements made by the Republic of Azerbaijan as a free and independent nation.

Note that L. Sanchez, member of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Party since 1997, is currently one of the two main candidates for the US Senate.

Another congressman from California Juan Vargas, Senator of this State Ben Allen and California State Assembly member Richard Bloom also joined the congratulations.
