Turkish foreign minister meets Japanese princess

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu received Japanese Princess Akiko of Mikasa on Monday the capital of Ankara.

They held a closed-door meeting at the official residence of the Turkish foreign minister.

Separately, Turkish parliament speaker Binali Yildirim also met Princess Mako of Japan in his official residence.

Prior to the meetings, Akiko left a wreath at Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic.

She then visited the Kalehoyuk archaeological site in the central province of Kirsehir, as well as the Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology, the Japanese Garden and the Kalehoyuk Museum of Archaeology.

She will be in Turkey until Sept. 14.
