Turkish FM: Bomber in Istanbul attack is from Syria

One of the bombers in an attack on an Istanbul soccer stadium last weekend had come from Syria, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday, cited by Reuters.

The twin attacks in Istanbul on Saturday – involving a car bomb and a separate suicide bomber – killed 44 people, mostly policemen, outside Besiktas soccer stadium, and injured more than 150.

An offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) rebel group claimed responsibility for the bombings. Cavusoglu did not specify which of the two bombers he was referring to.
