Sharjah: 4x4s stolen after being left with engines running

Police are urging motorists not to leave their cars unattended with the engine running after a gang was arrested for a spate of 4×4 thefts in Sharjah.

The nine-member gang, made up of eight Asians and an Arab, was arrested after several people filed reports claiming their cars were stolen after getting out and leaving the engine running. Sharjah Police were able to identify the suspects and where they lived. During interrogations, the men confessed to stealing the vehicles, police said.

They were referred to prosecutors to face charges.

Col Ibrahim Al Ajil, director of Sharjah Criminal Investigation Department, said drivers should switch off engines and secure their cars before leaving them and refrain from leaving valuables visible inside.
