There has been a hundred-fold increase in the export of drugs in the past 15 years, head of Food and Drug Administration of Iran (IFDA) said.

Rasoul Dinarvand made the remarks in a ceremony held on Sunday to unveil Iranian made drug for quitting smoking called ‘Varenicline’, reported Irna.

“We aim at developing pharmaceutical industry while some $3 billion dollars of different kinds of drugs are being produced domestically and drugs worth $1 billion are being imported,” he said.

“Drugs import had a fall of $500 million in the last three years,” he said.

He explained that Iran’s drug export was over $2 million 15 years ago and now it has reached $200 million.

During the event, the production line of cephalosporin suspension was also inaugurated with the attendance of Dinarvand and some other officials.
