Abu Dhabi Police managed to arrest a gang that specialised in stealing luxury cars. The suspects face charges of breaching trust and forging official documents to amass illegal profits. The gang of 11 Arabs, included three Emirati men.
Colonel Ahmed Saif Bin Zaytoon Al Muhairi, director of the Capital Police Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police, confirmed that Abu Dhabi Police received several tip-offs reporting a group of people that was renting luxury cars from car rental firms, but not returning them after use.
Research and investigation teams were formed to probe the situation. The teams were able to arrest the first defendant, who admitted that he carried out the thefts in collaboration with his partners. The research and investigation teams managed to nab the rest of the gangsters and transferred them to the concerned authorities.
Maj Misbah Al Ketbi, director of Shabia Police Station, explained that the gangsters were renting the luxury cars from car rental companies and delivering them to one of the gangsters. The latter would forge customs documents by changing the serial number of the cars and issuing customs certificates along with a new number plate. He would then sell the cars.
Al Ketbi pointed out that the nine stolen cars included a Lamborghini, Range Rover, Mercedes and Nissan. Six of the cars were stolen from Abu Dhabi and three from Dubai.
The cars were worth about Dhs7 million. All the stolen cars were recovered and the defendants were arrested.
