King Salman hopes Trump brings ‘security and stability’ to Middle East

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman held a telephone conversation with U.S. president-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him on his victory.

During the conversation, King Salman confirmed the Kingdom’s aspiration to promote historical and strategic relations with the United States, and work together to bring peace and stability to the Middle East and the world, and wished the American people further progress and prosperity under Trump’s leadership.

Trump expressed gratitude and appreciation and emphasized his keenness to develop the distinctive bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

Earlier, King Salman sent a message to Trump congratulating him on winning the U.S. presidency.

In the message, the king said: “I am pleased to send you, on behalf of the people and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in my own name, the best congratulations and wishes of good health and happiness for you and the friendly people of the United States of America further progress and prosperity, wishing you every success in your missions to achieve security and stability in the Middle East region and the world as a whole.”

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques praised the historical close relations between the two friendly countries for which everyone is looking forward to develop in all fields for the interests of the two states.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense also sent separate cables of congratulations to Trump.

In their cables, the Crown Prince and Deputy Crown Prince expressed their best wishes of good health and happiness for Trump and the friendly people of the U.S. further progress and prosperity.

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Saudi Ambassador to the United States Prince Abdullah bin Faisal bin Turki said that Riyadh is looking forward to working with any American administration that has good intentions towards the kingdom.

The ambassador said Riyadh maintained good relations with Washington over the past decades. He added U.S. companies are still the largest foreign investors in the Saudi market.

Turki pointed out that it is no secret that the two countries agree on some issues and disagree on others. He added that Saudi Arabia and the U.S. agree on important issues such as peace and stability in the Middle East.

The ambassador also mentioned that the kingdom won’t overlook the Palestinian cause and will push international efforts towards solving it.
