Israeli soldier killed in tank overturning in Golan Heights

An Israeli soldier died late Wednesday after the tank he was in crashed and flipped over during a military training exercise in the Golan Heights in northern Israel.

The soldier was identified as Sgt. Ido Ben-Ari, a 20-year-old tank commander in the 401st Brigade from Ramat Hasharon. Ben-Ari’s family has been notified, and the army is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Three other Israel Defense Forces soldiers were lightly injured in the incident, which occurred on Mount Shifon, and all three were taken to a local hospital. The incident is the latest in a number of training accidents in the Golan in recent months.

In August, seven Israeli soldiers were injured, one of them severely, in a collision between two vehicles, also on the Golan Heights. Two Israeli soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in July by a grenade explosion near the entrance to a military outpost in the Har Dov region.
