Royal Grammar School, Guildford in Qatar opens to pupils

The Royal Grammar School, Guildford in Qatar (RGS) has opened its doors to its founding students.
Following an induction morning earlier this week attended by Hamad Saleh Al Qamra, Chairman, Al Qamra Holding, and the school’s benefactor, the school was officially declared open to pupils.
Principal Paul Bridges said it was Al Qamra’s “passion, support and generosity’ that made the school possible in Qatar”. Other attendees, including Dr. Hossam Mostafa, CEO, Al Qamra Holding, founding parents and pupils, enjoyed an open day, viewing the school and its facilities, which include indoor and outdoor play areas for each year group.
Bridges referred to RGS as “a unique school” with an impressive history of providing an outstanding British education for over 500 years.
He also spoke about high expectations at RGS to ensure all pupils are on the path to success. The pupils are expected to be punctual, polite and courteous, work with others, persevere and try their hardest at all times.
Special thanks were paid to
Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for providing the educational vision for Qatar, which was instrumental in the invitation made to RGS to provide the same level of outstanding British education here.
The school in the convenient location of Umm Salal Mohammed, follows British curriculum developed at RGS. It challenges and inspires children to make the most of their talents. The language of instruction is English and the faculty is British-trained and qualified.
Admission is by assessment and applicants must meet the high academic standards demanded by RGS or be able to demonstrate potential to access the curriculum and thrive at the school.
The school is open to girls and boys aged three and six years (Reception, Nursery, Year 1 and 2) and older students up to 18 will be admitted into the Senior School over the coming years.
