Jordan Unemployment Rate

Unemployment in Jordan among university degree holders has increased to 18.6 per cent compared to those with other educational levels, the Department of Statistics revealed in a report published on Monday. The report is based on a survey with a sample of 13,000 families across Jordan. Participants were asked if they had looked for a job in the previous four weeks.

According to the report, nearly 50 per cent of unemployed Jordanians hold the General Secondary Education Certificate or a higher qualification. Meanwhile, unemployment among male BA holders stands at 21.4 per cent, compared to 70 per cent for women.

Unemployment among males stood at 12.9 per cent compared to 22.8 per cent for females in the same period, rising by 2.8 percentage points from the second quarter of 2015. The figure for all of those unemployed rose to 14.7 per cent during the second quarter of this year.
