You need only look around the city to see Dubai has a bright, and indeed extremely bold, future.
Already home to some of the world’s most ingenious and exciting architecture, the next few years promises to crank things up a notch as we rattle full speed towards Expo 2020.
And now to get a real sense of the some of the cooler projects coming to town, there can be no better place than Cityscape Global at Dubai World Trade Centre from September 6-8.
Packed with hundreds upon hundreds of exhibits from both leading developers and some of the more bespoke companies all changing the landscape of our home, it has developed from the trade show it once was into something that excites the thousands of curious residents who attend. Leading stands often feature scale models as well as activations to try.

MEYDAN ONE
Originally making headlines this time last year, the use overhaul of the area around the iconic Meydan Racecourse is set to become a five million square metre leisure, residential and hospitality destination when it opens in 2020. When complete, the entire project will have broken seven construction world records among its features. Key components include a 711m tall tower, known as Dubai One, a giant shopping mall, a four kilometre canal, one kilometre indoor ski slope (the world’s largest), a 25,000 sqm indoor multi-purpose sport facility, over 5.3km bicycle and jogging trails, and a one of a kind heritage village.
DISTRICT ONE
Handover for the first phase of villas in Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City will happen next year. When complete, the entire development will featurem as its most eye-catching development, the world’s Largest Crystal lagoon as the heartbeat of 600 acres of green spaces (that’s 60 percent of the whole project). Predominantly a residential desintation of fancy villas up to eight-bedrooms large, it is set just behind Al Khali Road near Downtown.
DUBAI GOLF CITY
For a desert, Dubai has always had a strong affinity with golf and right now stands as one of leading desitnations for amateur and professionals alike, so much so that a number of the world’s best have designed their own courses here. And taking things to the next level, is Dubai Golf City, with a residential development known as Zen by Indigo at its very heart. Templated on the tropical landscapes of the Far East, it will be home to a network of streams and lakes between the homes.
VIKING PALACE AT THE WORLD ISLANDS
So you’ve already got a villa on The World Islands, with its own private beach; how do you make it better? Get luxury car brand Bentley to design the interiors, of course. That’s exactly what they have done on Sweden Island, which is all part of an authentic Stockholm vibe, including a vast array of culture, art and historical references, as well as the capital city’s medieval beauty.
NEW LIVING ON WATER
Moverover Floating Seahorses, New Living on Water (NLW) are in town. The DDutch developer will officially unveil their futuristic-looking concepts at Cityscape Global. Striking in their design, a 16,000 square foot indoor and 520 sq ft outdoor model will be showcased. It costs Dhs40 million, and that’s just the start. The homes are split across three levels, including a basement with garage and space for six cars. There is also a cinema, fitness room and garden roof. It is designed to be lived in at numerous locations.
