European delegation visits EU-funded facilities in Gaza

A European Parliament delegation visited EU-funded infrastructure projects in the water sector in the Gaza Strip on Thursday.

The delegation was headed by Jean Arthuis, a French lawmaker and head of the EU budget committee, and included Ralph Tarraf, the EU representative in Palestine.

The delegation visited a wastewater treatment plant in northern Gaza Strip which is funded by the European Union, the World Bank, Belgium, France and Sweden and a small desalination plant in south Gaza, where an agreement was signed with the management to raise its productive capacity.

Deputy Chairman of the Water Authority in Gaza Rabhi al-Sheikh described the water and sewage projects that are funded by the EU and other donors as “an important lever to address the water crisis in Gaza”.

Al-Sheikh praised European support for such projects and noted their importance to the people of Gaza.
