A bomb disposal unit was called to Amritsar airport earlier today after an ‘unidentified bag’ was discovered aboard a Dubai-bound flight.
According to local media reports, passengers were asked to disembark from the SpiceJet flight, which was then removed from the runway and parked in an isolated spot for the search at Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport in Amritsar.
Indian carrier SpiceJet confirmed the incident, stating the unidentified bag belonged to a Dubai-based passenger who missed his flight from the airport, but found his luggage making the onward journey to Amritsar.
In a statement, the airline said: “The unidentified baggage belonged to a passenger travelling from Dubai-Amritsar who missed the flight after clearing all the security checks.
“Pilots adhered to all standard operation protocols to ensure safety of all passengers onboard. The bag has been identified and will be delivered to the passenger.”
The airline further stated: “The false alarm due to the miscommunication caused inconvenience to the passenger, which is deeply regretted.”
