While Eid is normally a time of celebration, Syrian refugees in Zaatari despair for their country, lament continued separation from family
Syrians usually mark Eid by spending time with family members in a joyous celebration of the end of Ramadan fasting, but for many in Jordan’s Zaatari refugee camp, the festival is a harsh reminder of the fact they are separated from family and friends who are still facing the horrors of the ongoing civil war.
For refugees who came to the camp when it was first opened in July 2012, this is their fifth Eid away from home.
This Eid, Middle East Eye spoke to a few refugees in Zaatari camp, which is located in the north of Jordan and now home to around 80,000 Syrians:
