As Oxu.az reports, a member of the European Parliament Norica Nicolai, European Parliament Rapporteur on Azerbaijan Richard Czarniecki, Vice-President of the European Parliament Kosma Zlotowski, a member of the delegation in the parliamentary cooperation committees “EU – Azerbaijan” and “EU – Armenia” and the Committee of the Parliamentary Association “EU – Georgia” have signed a statement condemning the murder of peaceful Azerbaijani citizens by the Armenian armed forces.
“We, the undersigned members of the European Parliament, vigorously condemn the murder of Allahverdiyeva Sahiba Idris gizi (born 1967) and Guliyeva Zahra Elnur gizi (born in 2017) by the armed forces of Armenia in the evening of July 4, 2017. The unlawful killing of civilians, women and children is unacceptable in all circumstances and must be halted immediately.
It turns out that this murder was the result of an attack by the armed forces of Armenia with the use of grenade launchers and mortars on unarmed Azerbaijani civilians living in the village of Alkhanli of the Fizuli district. Such a terrible and serious crime is unjustifiable, and we call for an immediate investigation of the acts and for a full criminal investigation aimed at identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators.
We call for the cessation of military operations in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Violence and escalation of aggression can lead to further conflicts and killing of innocent people. Such thoughtless provocations and destructions are dangerous for the stability of the whole South Caucasus region.
In addition, we call upon the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan to resume and speed up the negotiations in order to find a peaceful, stable and sustainable solution for the withdrawal of Armenian troops from the Azerbaijani territories.
We would also like to express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and to assure that our thoughts and prayers are with them today. “
