Over 60 kg of heroin seized in eastern Turkey

More than 60 kilograms (132 pounds) of heroin have been seized during anti-drug operation in Turkey’s eastern province of Van, local police said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Van Provincial Police Department said anti-drug units confiscated nearly 62 kg (app. 136 Ibs.) of heroin when they stopped a van in the Edremit district.

Packed into 120 blocks, the heroin was hidden in the vehicle body, the statement said.

During the operation, the van driver, known by the initials F.O., was also apprehended on charges of drug trafficking and transportation, the statement added.

Operations targeting the drug traffickers, who are financing the terrorist group PKK/KCK, continue, it also said.
