The Non-Aligned Movement Mid-Term Ministerial Conference entitled “Promoting international peace and security for sustainable development” has started in Baku.
According to Report, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Venezuelan Foreign Minister who is the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement Jorge Arreaza Montserrat, the Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and the President of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly Miroslav Lajčák attended the opening ceremony.
During the two-day conference, states participating in the Non-Aligned Movement, and representatives of state and international organizations that have obtained observer status from the Movement, will exchange views on the most relevant issues of international peace and security, as well as countries and organizations invited as special guests.
The Baku declaration will be adopted at the end of the meeting of the Foreign ministers.
The NAM includes 120 states. 17 states and 10 international organizations have an observer status to NAM.
In 2011, Azerbaijan joined the movement at the XVI Ministerial Conference, which was held in Bali. Azerbaijan will host the XVIII Summit of the NAM and will be the chair of NAM in 2019-2022.
