SOFIA, Bulgaria – The country holding the European Union presidency says it wants to work hard to improve relations with Turkey during its six months at the helm.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said Thursday that the EU has “to try and better relations with Turkey,” a neighbor on the bloc’s southeastern flank.
Following a period of worsening ties between the EU and Turkey, Germany and France have recently sought to improve relations.
Borissov pointed out Turkey’s important role as a NATO member, a military alliance to which most EU nations belong.
He also said Turkey remains key in managing the flow of migrants from the Middle East.
