Substantial progress has been achieved in EU-Azerbaijan relations since the last Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, said an EU official during a video-conference dedicated to the upcoming summit in Brussels.
“We are negotiating a new comprehensive agreement with Azerbaijan and expect it to initialed soon. The aviation agreement is also expected to be initialed soon as well,” said the EU official.
The official noted that Azerbaijan is an important energy partner and energy provider for EU.
Moreover, as for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the EU official noted that Europe is always in favor of all projects that increase connectivity among countries.
The official opening ceremony of the BTK railway was held in Baku Oct.30. The BTK railway was constructed on the basis a Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement.
The railway’s peak capacity will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At an initial stage, this figure will be one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
