UAE played significant role in Yemen military victories — Bin Dagher

Dubai: Yemen’s prime minister Ahmad Obaid Bin Dagher has praised a string of military victories by the Yemeni army and resistance groups backed by a Saudi-led Arab coalition.
Addressing a meeting of Arab Coalition commanders in Aden, he singled out the UAE in particular for its helpful support in securing the recent victories. Bin Dagher said that the UAE forces’ arrival in Aden marked a “historic turning point” and that the UAE support, along with the rest of the Arab coalition states, has led to the liberation of Al Mukalla from Al Qaida and restored stability to Hadramout Governorate.

He vowed not to give in to Iran which has worked at fomenting strife and division in Yemen and the Arab world.
The Yemeni people remain steadfast to subvert Iran’s destructive goals, he said.
The meeting tackled a number of security and military issues, including reinforcement of all military fronts with the objective of completing the liberation of areas still under rebels’ control.

Since 2015, the coalition has been fighting to restore the legitimate government of Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi to power, in conjunction with the Yemeni army.
Hadi came to power in early 2012 after massive Arab Spring protests ousted former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Hadi was forced to decamp to the city of Aden after escaping Al Houthi-imposed house arrest after the rebels took over the government in a coup in 2014.
Since then, Hadi has shifted government headquarters to Aden from where he has led an offensive to liberate Al Houthi-occupied territories.
With help from the Saudi-led Arab coalition, the Yemeni army has achieved widespread gains in many provinces, but Al Houthis still control the capital, Sana’a, and most northern provinces including Hodeida, Ibb, Mahweet, Yareem, Amran, Baydha and Hajja.
