President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will pay an official visit to Jordan upon invitation from Jordanian King Abdullah II.

According to a statement released by the office of the presidency, bilateral relations as well as opportunities to boost mutual trade and investments will be discussed during the visit. Consultations will be held amid aims to enhance cooperation and coordination between Turkey and Jordan, as two countries that border Syria and Iraq, within efforts to secure regional peace and stability during the visit, which will also provide an opportunity to address regional developments and the issue of Palestine in particular.

The visit is of special importance in that it coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Jordan, a country that enjoys deeply rooted historical, humanitarian and cultural ties with Turkey.

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the total value of Turkish exports to Jordan amounted to $300 million, while its imports recorded around $50 million in the first five months of this year. Main export items include textiles, jewelry, home appliances, machine and machinery products, motor vehicles and chemicals.

Turkey and Jordan signed a free trade agreement to increase economic, technical and industrial cooperation between the two countries, installation of appropriate competition environment, encouragement of reciprocal investments and the removal of trade restrictions in 2009 and the deal took effect in 2011.
