Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei officially authorized President Hassan Rouhani to take the office for the second time in a ceremony in the capital, Tehran, attended by senior Iranian and foreign officials.
During the event, Rouhani received his validation edict from the Leader and was officially validated into the office for the second time.
The endorsement ceremony will be followed by a public inauguration on August 5 in the Iranian parliament, where Rouhani will take his public oath of office in front of Iranian lawmakers and foreign dignitaries from 92 countries.
In Iran’s presidential election on May 19, Rouhani garnered 23,549,616 votes from a total of 41,220,131 ballots. The runner-up, Ebrahim Raisi, secured 38.5% of the votes.
No sitting president in Iran has failed to win a second term since 1981.
