Qatar’s royal family has paid a staggering $41 million (Ksh4.1 billion) for a New York mansion that will be exclusively used by their servants. According to Curbed, the family finalized the deal with the owner, billionaire Andrew Farkas, in January this year. It already owns two other properties, and they reportedly chose the third one due to its proximity to the first two. A source said: “Andrew sold it to Qatar directly, with no broker involved. They bought it because it backs directly onto their property at 7-9 East 72nd St. Andrew spent no expense renovating the place, but apparently it will be used for maids’ quarters.”

The 10,400-square-foot prime property features fives stories with excellent views of New York’s skyline. It has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and nine fireplaces. It also features several entertainment rooms, a living room, formal dining room, bar/club room, library, eat-in kitchen, gym, massage room and playroom. Farkas bought the property for $23 million (Ksh2.3 billion) in 2007.
