Turkish-Syrian border reopened for Ramadan

Thousands of Syrian refugees are currently leaving Turkey to return home to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan, following a temporary reopening of the Turkish borders with Syria in Cilvegozu and Oncupinar at the beginning of June, according to Turkish news agency Anadolu.

It said about 30,000 Syrians have already crossed the border from Turkey into Syria.

Crossing the border will be legal until June 23 with a special “permit for religious purposes”.

After Ramadan, the refugees will be able to return to Turkey by showing the documents issued to them by the Turkish government.

According to the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, Turkey is home to three million Syrian refugees, more than any other country in the world.
