A worker, who tricked a nine-year-old boy to gain entry into his house on the pretext of checking a drinking water bottle and kissed him, has been jailed for three months.
The Pakistani worker, 26, told the Filipino boy, 9, that he had come to check the drinking water bottle and see whether it needed to be replaced in March.
When the worker left the flat, the boy immediately called up his father and told him that the worker had kissed him on his lips.
The Filipino father then called the police and notified them about the Pakistani worker’s indecent behaviour.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 26-year-old defendant of molesting the child although he had pleaded not guilty.
Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the accused will be deported after serving his jail term.
When he defended himself in court, the accused argued: “I did not molest the boy … I kissed him on his cheeks.”
When asked why he had kissed the boy, the defendant said he planted a brotherly kiss on the boy’s cheeks.
The boy’s father said his son called him around 2.30pm at work and told him what had happened.
“My son told me over the phone that the accused came to our residence to check the drinking water bottle … then he suddenly kissed my son. He also hugged my son from the back and left the flat,” the father testified.
The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
