An Emirati employee has been jailed for five years for raping his Ethiopian maid.
The 32-year-old employee called his maid to his room and assaulted her after locking the door in August 2016.
The matter was reported to the police by a maid from neighbour’s house, who saw the 21-year-old Ethiopian running out from her employees’s house and crying for help.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the Emirati of using physical violence while raping the maid although he had pleaded not guilty.
The 21-year-old maid testified that the defendant asked her to come urgently to his room at around 4pm.
“Once I walked into the room, he closed the door and locked it. Then he pushed me towards the bed, pinned me down and groped me … then he had sex with me against my will. I could not resist him or push him off. He let me go once he finished … I ran out of the room and walked out of the house where the neighbour’s maid saw me and informed the police about the incident,” the Ethiopian maid said.
A police sergeant said a police team went to the Emirati’s residence after receiving the information about the incident, where the maid told police that she had been raped by her sponsor. He said when the Emirati employee did not come out of his house we took the victim to police station to record her statement.
Sunday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
