Baku calls on the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to stop the provocative actions of Yerevan aimed at carrying out air flights to Armenia from the airport of occupied Khojaly.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan regards Yerevan’s plans to organize flights from the airport of the occupied Azerbaijani town of Khojaly to Armenia under the guise of tourist trips as provocation” the press secretary of the foreign ministry Hikmet Hajiyev said in a statement.
According to him, Armenia deals a serious blow to the negotiation process for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and purposefully aggravates the situation with such provocations. In this regard, Baku calls on the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to demonstrate the determination and take effective measures.
“In general, Armenia’s actions in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, including the use of natural resources, economic activities, are aimed at annexing these territories” Hikmet Hajiyev said.
The Khojaly airport has a special code and is listed as a property of Azerbaijan according to the International Civil Aviation Organization, and the flights over the occupied territories of Azerbaijan are prohibited, since they cannot provide security” he said.
Hajiyev noted that Azerbaijan will also appeal to international organizations, including the Civil Aviation Organization, the Interstate Council on Aviation and Air Space Use in order to prevent another Armenian provocation.
