Saudi princess and fashion icon Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, the founding editor-in-chief of Vogue Arabia, has been fired from her role two issues into her tenure, Fashion Network reported.

“I shall be releasing a statement about what happened later today. They are in breach of contract and they shall be hearing from my lawyers,” Abdulaziz said.

A new editor for the magazine, which first launched in October, has already been appointed, according to Business of Fashion.

“I refused to compromise when I felt the publisher’s approach conflicted with the values which underpin our readers and the role of the editor-in-chief in meeting those values in a truly authentic way,” said Abdulaziz in an exclusive statement to BOF.

Despite this, Abdulaziz emphasized that she is proud of what she’s accomplished in such a short time frame.

“I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish in such a short space of time … it had initially been my intention to build this important and groundbreaking edition of Vogue from inception to a mature magazine in line with others in the Vogue stable,” she added.

Earlier this year, Vogue Arabia made international headlines after featuring international model Gigi Hadid on the cover of its first-ever print edition.

The half-Palestinian model appeared on both the English and Arabic covers under the theme “reorienting perceptions,” dressed in an embellished veil and a hot pink headscarf.

“Being half-Palestinian, it means the world to me to be on the first-ever cover(s) of Vogue Arabia,” Gigi Hadid wrote in an Instagram caption at the time.

With 52,300 followers on Instagram, Princess Deena is one of the most popular royals in the Arab world.

She manages exclusive fashion boutiques in Doha and Riyadh aside from her former role at Vogue Arabia.

She is married to a member of the Saudi royal family, Abdulaziz Bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
