British-Palestinian woman shortlisted for Leader 2017 award

A Palestinian academic at the Oxford University is one of five people shortlisted for the Inspiring Leader 2017 award, organised by the Guardian Higher Education Network.

Karma Nabulsi, who chairs the undergraduate studies department at the University of Oxford and, as a professor of politics, lectures on social movements and philosophies of war and peace, is one of two women who have been shortlisted for the award.

Nabulsi specialises in anti-colonial history. Her latest projects was “The Palestinian Revolution”, an online teaching resource in both Arabic and English that looks into “the Palestinian revolutionary in thought and practice” over different historical periods.

Judges have said:

“Without her patience, dedication and commitment the experiences of numerous students at Oxford and elsewhere would have been immeasurably poorer… it is hard to imagine a more worthy recipient.”

The general public is now welcome to vote for who they think should win the Inspiring Leader 2017 award. The closing date for votes is 12 March while the winner will be announced on 29 March.

The shortlist was nominated by universalities across the UK and selected by an panel of higher education experts and Guardian journalists.
