Woman sues Emirates for refusing to give her water

A woman claims she collapsed from dehydration after being refused water during an Emirates flight from Melbourne to Dubai.

Lina Di Falco is suing the airline for damages, interest and costs after she was allegedly told by staff she would have to wait for a drink, despite feeling unwell during the long haul flight.

She claims she was told she would have to wait ‘a couple of hours’ for refreshments when they would be served with food, The Herald Sun reports.

Ms Di Falco said she began feeling unwell on the EK407 flight in March 2015, in a statement of claim filed with the supreme court.

The plane’s cabin was hot and she alleges she asked for water a number of times, but was denied.

Feeling queasy, the Victorian woman went to the bathroom where she passed out.

During the fall, she claims she hurt her right ankle which needed two surgeries and left her with a permanent injury.

‘The incident was caused by reason of the failure of the Defendant … to provide water when requested by the Plaintiff in order to rehydrate herself,’ the statement of claim alleges.

The event should have been easy to avoid, according to Ms Di Falco’s lawyer Danielle D’Alessandro.

‘Had Ms Di Falco been provided with water upon request, this injury could have been avoided,’ she told the Herald Sun.

‘Emirates’ omission turned Ms Di Falco’s holiday into a nightmare.

‘Ms Di Falco has been left with a significant lifelong injury that could have been avoided by the simple provision of water by aircraft staff.’
