Aivazovsky’s stolen painting found in the office of the Armenian President

The scandal surrounding painting of seascape painter Ivan Aivazovsky “View of the Sea” has arisen since it was found in the office of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.

The fact is that the masterpiece of Russian painting had been stolen from the country house of the Russian businessman, the president of “Russian gold” group of companies Alexander Tarantsev.

After some time, the Armenian Charitable Foundation “Pyunik” solemnly presented the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan with the painting. The photos from the event were widely disseminated by the Armenian media.

After that, an Armenian news agency Armtimes published an article “Pyunik Foundation presented the President of Armenia with the stolen painting of Ivan Aivazovsky.” Currently, the news reporting that the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan had received a painting of Aivazovsky from the Foundation, was removed from the website of “Pyunik Foundation”, but Armtimes reports that the screenshot of the removed news is available for editors.

Once in a very awkward position, the “Pyunik Foundation”, on February 17, issued an official statement that the painting of Aivazovsky, which had been given to the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, was allegedly fake.
