A British man has died while working on a 2022 World Cup stadium in Qatar.
The man was killed after falling off a suspended platform while working on the Khalifa International Stadium last Thursday.
He fell when the platform, used to manage sound and lighting, collapsed. His safety harness was cut during the fall, said the contractor for the stadium, Midmac-Six Construct.
The man was employed by a South African subcontractor, which was working for a German firm.
The organising committee behind the tournament, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, said in a statement posted on its website: “A 40-year-old British male lost his life working on Khalifa International Stadium.
“The relevant authorities have been notified and the next of kin has been informed. An immediate investigation into the cause of this fatality is under way and further details will be released in due course.
“The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy shares our deepest condolences with the family for their loss.”
