The crown of Nader Shah Afshar returns to Imam Ali’s holy shrine

The crown of Nader Shah Afshar was returned to the holy shrine of Imam Ali (PBUH) in Iraq’s Najaf after decades.

The golden crown is to be put on the top of the dome in Astan Alavi on Saturday, coinciding with birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), al-Alam reported.

The crown had been donated to the holy shrine by Nader Shah (1698- 1747 AD), when he paid a pilgrimage to Najaf.

The gold crown is in shape of a sun with 14 beams of light, representing The Fourteen Infallibles (PBUT).

Nader Shah was one of the most powerful kings in the history of Iran, ruling as Shah of Persia from 1736 to 1747.

The crown had been taken away from the holy mausoleum by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
