The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation has announced Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will meet mid-January in the Kazakh capital city, Astana.

According to the Russian Ministry, the three heads of states are scheduled to confer on the Syrian situation and make efforts to arrive at an agreement about the future of the war-torn country during Astana meeting.

On Tuesday, foreign ministers of Iran, Russia and Turkey met in Moscow for talks on the Syrian situation while the defense ministers of the three countries held separate talks on the same topic in the Russian capital city.

In a joint statement released on the same day, the three foreign ministers underscored that the Syrian conflict could not be settled through military solutions. Astana meeting next month will address the issue as the three presidents make efforts to bring their views on Syria closer to one another and become more coordinated in fighting terrorism.
