Saudi Sheikh claims 18 is “too old” for a woman to marry, citing the Prophet’s wife

The Stop Enslaving Saudi Women campaign has published a horrific video where a Saudi Sheikh claimed that 18 was “too old” for a woman to marry and delivered a sermon demanding Saudi men receive the unfettered right to abuse children. His Islamophobic sermon cited Aisha, the wife of the Prophet Mohammed, repeating the racist trope that she was 9 years old. He encourages Saudi men to rape children too young for periods and attacks the campaign to end male guardianship.

These are the horrors that Barack Obama and Theresa May allow Saudi women to live under.

“They want to add obstacles to marriage, and for the woman to be free to do what she wants to do, because marriage restricts her. And it makes her a prisoner at home, and obedient to her husband. They want her to be released! They say we should set the age for marriage at 18 years old. 18 years old!! At 18 she’s way above marriage age – she’s an old maid at that point! An old maid – that’s what they want to achieve. The Prophet married Aisha when she was 6, and consummated the marriage when she was 9 – and he was our master, may peace be upon him. Allah Almighty says in the Quran that the waiting period for women [sic] who have not yet got their periods because they are too young is three months after marriage.”
