According to Trend, during the visit of the delegation of World Jewish diaspora in Azerbaijan, members of the delegation visited the village of Krasnaya Sloboda (Red Town) in Quba district – settlement of Mountain Jews.

“The village of Krasnaya Sloboda is the only special place of compact residing of mountain Jews in the world, the real pride of Azerbaijan. Here Jews and Azerbaijanis lived like brothers for centuries; they are linked by a common destiny and a common history. It is a historical fact that Azerbaijan has never had anti-Semitism, and we, those who come from Azerbaijan, are proud of this fact”, – Vice President of Russian Jewish Congress German Zakharyayev noted.

The delegation visited a synagogue in the village of Krasnaya Sloboda.  President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald Lauder expressed his gratitude to the authorities of the Republic for the conditions created for Jews in Azerbaijan.

“I greatly appreciate the sincere and warm attitude towards the Jewish community living in Azerbaijan; Azerbaijan really is a model of tolerance and an example for the entire world community”, – Lauder said.
