Islamic State has reported convicted Australian terrorist Ezzit Raad – who was jailed over the 2005 plot to blow up the MCG – has been killed fighting for the terrorist group in Syria.

Isis published overnight its first edition of Rumiyah, a propaganda magazine for the terror network. The 38-page online publication was released simultaneously in seven languages, including English, French, German, Russian and Turkish.

The first edition dedicates four pages to Raad, whom it says died in the city of Manbij, near Aleppo, when “a piece of shrapnel struck him and tore his chest open”.

Raad, 36, was jailed for four-and-a-half years in 2008, after being convicted in an operation codenamed Pendennis, for a plot to blow up the MCG during an AFL match.

After being released from prison, Ezzit Raad left Australia in 2013, before the Australian government began cancelling the passports of people suspected of planning to travel to Syria to wage violent jihad.

Rumiyah’s obituary on Raad, also known as Abu Mansur al-Muhajir, describes him as a man of “unyielding fervour and zeal”.

The magazine reported that Raad was further radicalised by his time in prison in Australia, saying he was released “more emboldened and more steadfast upon this path”.

Raad was regarded as a significant recruiter for the Isis cause. He helped convince Melbourne teenager Adam Dahman to travel to Syria to fight. Dahman would go on to blow himself up in a suicide bombing in a Baghdad market in 2014, killing five people.

Below a picture of the deceased Raad’s injured face, Rumiyah praised his violence and brutality, claiming he helped kill or wound more than 90 people in a single operation.

“He remained steadfast in the face of everything he was afflicted with, never weakening, never surrendering,” the magazine said.

The magazine reported that Raad became a “beloved” local leader, and was appointed “amir of the Faruq Dam and the surrounding villages”.

The same article also called for “lone wolf” followers of Isis to stab, shoot, poison and run over non-believers in Australia.

It said Australia was “a land cloaked in darkness and corrupted by kufr [unbelief], fornication, and all forms of vice”.

“Light the ground beneath them aflame and scorch them with terror. Kill them on the streets of Brunswick, Broadmeadows, Bankstown, and Bondi. Kill them at the MCG, the SCG, the Opera House, and even in their backyards.

“Stab them, shoot them, poison them and run them down with your vehicles.”
