Morocco arrests 52 suspects in Daesh-linked cell

Morocco’s interior ministry yesterday announced that police had arrested 52 people suspected of having links to Daesh and who had planned several attacks in the kingdom.

The operation which took place on 19 July followed an investigation into 143 suspects throughout the country.

“The perpetrators planned several attacks targeting state prisons, security establishments, festivals and recreation centres,” the ministry said.

The pre-emptive operation included suspects of different leadership levels in many parts of the kingdom, they had been using social media to manipulate minors and convince them to travel to conflict zones.

Authorities say they seized weapons, manuals describing how to make explosives and chemical weapons, books about suicide bombings, and Daesh flags.
