Jordan to close down ‘Gulen’ schools

The Jordanian Ministry of Education closed a boarding school funded by Turkish religious scholar Fethullah Gülen, who is suspected of being the mastermind behind the failed coup in Turkey, Jordanian media reported yesterday.

According to Al-Ghad newspaper, the minister asked the Amman governor to close the school a couple of days after revoking its licence.

The ministry’s Director of Boarding Schools, Amin Shdeefat, said the school was closed following administrative violations, noting that it was informed about these violations several times.

Another source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the school had been closed because it was following a syllabus that was unaccredited.

Sources also said the school was closed following a request by the Turkish embassy in Amman.
