Earthquake shakes Turkey

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake took place in Yalova province, a province only kilometers away from Istanbul, at around 8:40 a.m. on Friday.

The quake occurred 6.8 kilometers below the surface level according to the Boğaziçi University’s Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute.

The 4.4 magnitude earthquake occured only ten minutes after an initial quake of magnitude 2.7 according to the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

No casualties or damage was immediately reported after the earthquake.
