As part of the ongoing investigation against the Gülenist terror-cult (FETÖ) that followed July 15 coup attempt, 40 military officers from the Turkish Military Academy were arrested on Saturday.
44 military officers, including three colonels, one lieutenant colonel, five majors, 34 captains and one non-commissioned sergeant were detained and brought to Istanbul’s Çağlayan Courthouse for questioning.
Following testimonies before the public prosecutors, the suspects were referred to court, which ruled for the release of four suspects under judicial control, while the remaining suspects were arrested.
During the searches carried out in the suspects’ offices and residences, police units found $1 dollar banknotes – used as a symbol by coup plotters – FETÖ leader Fetullah Gülen’s books, notes and documents regarding the coup attempt, martial law declaration prepared by coup plotters dated July 14, copies of 103 identity cards along with numerous CD’s and digital documents.
Previously on July 18, 15 officers were arrested from the Turkish Military Academy for complicity with the coup attempt.
