A senior Daesh commander has been killed in Iraq, the militant group’s Amaq news agency said Wednesday.
Omar al-Sishani was killed in clashes around Mosul, the outlet said without providing further details.
In March, the U.S. Defense Department confirmed Sishani’s death.
A U.S. airstrike March 4 near the northeastern Syrian town of Shadadi targeted Sishani, a defense official told Anadolu Agency on March 8.
The Syrian-based Georgian national, also known as Omar Checheni and Tarkhan Tayumurazovich Batirashvili, was considered a top Daesh leader by the U.S. and offered a reward of up to $5 million dollars for information about his whereabouts.
