Iran has been suffering from severe floods for almost two months, and in certain ostans floods are still ongoing. The disaster resulted in a large number of deaths. A lot more people lost their houses, property, and livelihood.

It is noteworthy that Iran had been suffering from drought for more than ten years before this and now rains and floods have replaced the drought. According to the latest reports, certain Southern ostans of Iran have witnessed the invasion of locusts, right after the floods.

Locust plague occurs in Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchestan provinces, and Qeshm Island.

I have no wish to gloat, but from the outside, it reminds “Plagues of Egypt.”

The flood has exposed the complete incompetence of the Iranian regime in urban development, creation of infrastructure and in dealing with natural disasters. Although meteorological services warned the authorities about the upcoming danger, no measures have been taken.

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed the same point: “The regime blames outside entities when, in fact, it is their mismanagement that has led to this disaster. They even jail environmentalists for attempting to help Iran prepare for these very issues.”

However, despite their obvious failure, the Iranian regime immediately used this natural disaster to escalate their anti-Western and, in particular, anti-American propaganda. According to Iran’s president and policymakers “Western sanctions prevent the Government from dealing with the consequences of floods and heavy rains.”

The Iranian regime’s propaganda campaign was accompanied by demagogic tweets of the Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. In a country, where Twitter is prohibited, the Foreign Minister uses his twitter-account to blame the US for all troubles of his country.

I wonder how Western sanctions do not prevent Iran from providing missiles to Hezbollah and Houthis, having hordes of recruits in Syria and Iraq, supporting Taliban and interfering in the internal affairs of neighboring countries.

The President of Iran encouraged the US to lift sanctions against Iran, because, according to his words, Iran has suffered damage of 2,5 billion dollars, as a result of the floods. In comparison, Iran annually spends 6-15 billion dollars to support Bashar Assad.

Moreover, foundations controlled by the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei possess assets, valued about 95 billion dollars. It is enough to cover the losses and significantly improve the infrastructure of Iran, but the regime has been slow in using these funds for the good of the people, exploiting natural disaster for anti-Western propaganda, thereby condemning its citizens to suffer.

Before this natural disaster, Iran had been suffering from the water crisis, caused by dry weather, but the primary cause of the water crisis was unplanned, inefficient use of ground and surface water for agricultural purposes. In order to conceal their incompetence and mismanagement, Iranian authorities accused Israel of stealing clouds over Iran. In particular, in 2018 Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization stated: “Israel and another country in the region steal clouds over Iran, thereby causing drought in the country.” At the same time, the head of Iran’s meteorological service Ahad Vazife said it is impossible to steel clouds over any country, according to meteorology principles.

Now the regime cannot deal with the consequences of the disaster and accuse the US of that. I assume that demagogic speeches from Tehran will go on for the near future. The Iranian regime is in a state of permanent battle for survival and would henceforth associate all troubles of its people with the US, Europe, Israel, Saudi Arabia, etc.
