An Arab man has been arrested in Dubai for allegedly trying to smuggle 5.75 million drug pills stuffed inside sheep intestines.
Dubai Custom officers seized the stimulants, weighing almost 1,000kg, while the suspect was trying to clear the custom procedures at the Jebel Ali Port.
Upon inspecting the container, custom officers found the shipment containing amphetamine pills.
Dubai Public Prosecution accused the suspect, who is working as a sales agent for a sheep trading company, for importing 5.75 million drug pills inside the sheep intestines, an Arabic newspaper reported.
The pills were found placed in plastic bags and then hidden inside sheep intestines, records showed.
The sheep intestines were stored in barrels.
According to the case file, the suspect visited Dubai Customs to get the shipment’s custom clearance so that he could then transfer it to a Dubai warehouse.
The sales agent had been asked by his brother residing in an Asian country to get the shipment cleared from Dubai Customs and he sent him $4,400 (Dh16,161) to complete the procedure.
The salesman had to hand over the shipment to another person in return for Dh5,000.
