Two men have died in separate drowning incidents that took place in Sharjah on Friday.

Sharjah Police have confirmed that one incident took place in Al Khan Beach while the other incident took place at Al Hamriyah Beach, where five men were involved in the incident.

Police received a call at 6.20pm, Friday, saying that five men were drowning in Al Hamriyah Beach, a number of these men were Syrians while the others were from India.

Ambulance and rescue teams were immediately dispatched. The five men were rushed to Khalifa Hospital in Ajman however, a Syrian man, in his 40s, died at the hospital.

The four other men were said to be in stable condition.

Police were also alerted at 12.30pm on Friday about two men, an Egyptian and a Somalian, who were drowning on Al Khan Beach.

Rescue teams transferred the Egyptian, 24, to Kuwait Hospital. The body of the Somalian man, in his 20s, was found at sea on Saturday.

A Sharjah Police official said: “The increase of drowning incidents is due to swimmers’ failure to adhere to safety rules.

“It’s hard to state one single cause for drowning, especially because accidents occur in different locations and situations and to different people.”

Police have urged swimmers to avoid going into the sea during unstable weather and to be cautious while swimming.
