Few days ago, the US Senate adopted a resolution, whereby the 1915-1922 events in Turkey are recognized as “the Armenian genocide”. Of course, we can see that Ankara is not agree with this position. There is an opinion that the US uses those events as a means of pressure on Ankara. We asked Emir Eksioglu, Turkish political analyst, to comment on this issue.

Do you think that Washington actually uses “the Armenian genocide” to put pressure on Turkey or is it just a statement of a historical fact?

First of all, I’d like to tell you that I don’t accept the nonsense called the ‘Armenian Genocide.’ I believe that everyone who has done thorough research knows that there is no such thing. As a matter of fact, Turkey lets everyone look up the documents about the so-called ‘genocide’ and encourages people to research this subject, this alone is enough to understand that there is no such thing.

As to the USA, they use this kind of strategy against some countries from time to time. There have been similar cases with Venezuela and Iran. It is obvious that the USA is disturbed by Turkey’s purchase of the S400 and its relations getting better with Russia(maybe the best in history) Of course, this disturbance is not shown by Trump, but by the Senate and the House of Representatives.

I think it is Turkey’s inefficient lobbying skills, both in terms of international media and politics, that causes the country to always come face to face with so-called ‘Armenian Genocide’ allegations. Honestly, I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that, despite being a small country, Armenia has a diaspora and lobbyists, but we don’t. This doesn’t only go for the genocide allegations; unfortunately, Turkey has a problem of telling the world about itself, and the government still hasn’t done anything of magnitude in this matter. As someone who has researched this, I can say that if you don’t have good lobbyists, your military or economy will not play a significant role.
