Iraqi police on Monday arrested five people for suspected links with the Daesh terrorist group, according to a senior security official.
The suspects were arrested in western Mosul on a tip-off from local residents, Nineveh Police Chief, Brigadier General Hamad al-Jabouri, told Anadolu Agency.
Thousands of people have been arrested by Iraqi forces for suspected Daesh links since the terrorist group was cleared from its largest stronghold in Mosul last year.
Last December, officials in Baghdad declared that the Daesh’s military presence in Iraq had been all but dismantled after a three-year war. However, from time to time, Iraqi officials announce operations against Daesh-affiliated “sleeper cells” in certain parts of the country.
