According to IRNA, Member of Board of Directors of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Hossein Ashuri said on Saturday that Azerbaijan Republic is to invest 60 million dollars to develop Astara railway railway station in the West of Gilan province.
During the inspection of Astara (Azerbaijan) – Astara (Iran) railway route project, Ashuri noted that the exploitation of the rail route for transport of goods has been ceded to Azerbaijan Republic for 15 years.
Ashuri also said that this rail route will be opened on Thursday, in the framework of official visit by the Iranian President to Azerbaijan and a 500-million-dollar contract on execution of Rasht-Astara railway project will be signed.
“Kazvin-Rasht-Astara” railway is a part of “North-South” rail corridor, which will link Northern Europe with South-East Asia, fusing the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia.
Cargo will pass through India and the Gulf, Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia in the direction of Scandinavian countries and Northern Europe in just 14 days.
